Air rifles, also known as air guns or pellet guns, use either compressed air or gas to fire a metallic pellet. Those that fire a plastic pellet are called airsoft rifles. Air rifles are distinct from firearms as the latter burn a propellant (gunpowder) to fire a bullet. There are three types of air rifles, namely Pre-Charged Pneumatic Rifles (PCP), CO2 Powered Rifles and Spring Piston Air Rifles (Springers). The Spring Piston Air Rifle is the type most people commonly identify with Pellet Guns. These are typically break-barrel air rifles or lever action air rifles with a rotating breech.
